Windows XP with 001 - install SP2 or no?

MessageAuthor

I'm about to do a clean re-install of XP on my system drive. I use a Digi001 with PT6.4. Is updated to Service Pack 2 recommended, or is it actually recommended to NOT do it? I thought I read through some posts on here advising against it, but I'm not sure why or what's behind it. Thanks. Kip

Don't do it. I tried it before. I can't remember what happened but it wasn't good.

If you live in a snow cave with out a internet connection than you don't need service pack 2. If you connect the machine to the internet I definitely recommend SP2...... Almost all of the SP2 related problems turned out to be old PACE drivers or DEP related. Unless you regularly connect to the internet or want to install a wireless card at some point SP2 is not really needed.

SP2 at this point, IMHO is a must. This is what you will need: (yes, you need to login to your account to download) (first version officially compatible with SP2) Make sure you trash your prefs and databases after updating (How To is mentioned in the General Troubleshooting thread).

what do these updates do specifically? the plugin update?? is that for the plugins that come with the digi? upgrade to features or something? and the software update?? just bug fixes?? and finally, that PACE thing... what's that about? what does that do? I'm confused. I don't have an iLock or any plugins that need an iLock. does the PACE download have something to do with that??

Bug fixes for included Digi plug-ins. Various bug fixes, most importantly SP2 compatibility. PACE is the security/authorization feature used for the Pro Tools LE program.
