Hi Has anybody experienced installing a power window system on a 1987 240 gl? I was successful installing the mechanisms and wirings of the 2 rear doors but unfortunately, the motor mechanism for the front windows do not slide in. The problem is the metal brace/crossmember support that runs from the outside door panel going to the inside door panel of the front glass rail that blocks the entry of the motor mechanism. Someone has recommended removing the motor, slide it in and screw in the mechanism. I'm worried that the "coil" spring attached to the motor mechanism has "tension" and might pop-up once the motor is removed from the mechanism. I need inputs on how to go about this. By the way, the power window kit came (motors, mechanisms, wiring harness, door handles and switches) came from a 240 donor vehicle in the United States.
Yes that sounds like how to do it - if you go the K-jet.org site where you got some other info, you will find the greenbook for the bodywork, and it shows how to replace the mechanism by tensioning it in a vice.
Power the window up then you can open and close to suit and it will go in easily. Lost count of the number we have done this way without problem. Mike

Thanks for the inputs Mike but I did not get it clearly. Can you please explain in detail? Hi Glen, should I do it this way, my concern is how will I know how much "tension" should be applied on the spring after removing the mechanism from the motor.
By the way Mike, for your information, this is what I did. I removed the manual mechanism and left the glass intact. This is were I tried sliding in the motor and mechanism, it was a tight fix. The round washer-like spacers are the ones that prevent the motor from sliding in, the brace welded on the inner door panel prevents the motor from sliding in. I need your help here.
A bit cheeky, but Any chance of a few pics/brief write up when you get it working? i thinking of doing this for mine when i find the parts. how are you wiring it all it?
Not exactly easy to describe but the motor and mechanism will change shape as the motor operates. By doing this it can be wiggled in. Hope this helps a little. Mike
Hi Mike Is your approach in the installation of the motor and mechanism is to wiggle the whole thing inside the door compartment with the power connected to be able to adjust "UP and "DOWN" if deemed necessary. Attached are pictures for clarification of my concern.
